“The Rat Trap”

Massive congrats to the cast and crew of “The Rat Trap” for a spectacularly successful run! The feedback received was overwhelmingly positive and the ticket sales speak for themselves with 2 of our 4 shows being sold out!!

Much new talent was showcased in this production and we look forward to taking these “newbie” Franklin drama diamonds from strength to strength in future endeavours with much anticipated excitement! See you all at the Panto auditions!! hehe

As you know, 10% of ticket sales will be donated to our chosen charity for 2017, Barking Mad / Dogtown SA (www.barkingmad.co.za). So far this year we have raised R3,193!! Let’s see if we can double this amount and then some after the panto ticket sales!! C’mon you beauties!!

RLT PRODUCTIONS

Our winning play from our 2017 One Act Play Festival, “For The Love Of Cheesecake”  took to the stage at RLT’s “Killa’ Jewels In July” play festival and proved yet again to be nothing short of spectacular!

The cast and crew did us Franklinites proud and even surpassed the high standard we have come to expect from our stars! 

“Peter Goes to Wonderland”

Indeed there is no rest for our full-throttle Franklin fanatics! Just as the curtain draws to a close on one production, the ball starts rolling with the new production! That means it’s end of year panto time!!

Social

Our social tomorrow, Saturday 12 August, will take place at Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens from 1pm. Please bring family, friends, picnic baskets and blankets and come and enjoy the gorgeous August sun and fresh air with us. We will be meeting at the main entrance at 1pm but if you can only join us a bit later we will be camping out opposite the kiddies play area adjacent to the restaurant. Come have a grub, a gargle and a giggle with us!! See you there!

Tips for Musical Theatre Auditions

1. Be prepared! This seems really obvious but make sure that you know what’s expected of you. Show up early and be prepared to sing straight away.
    
2. Be in good voice. If you haven’t sung in a while, you can’t expect to go into a singing audition and perform well. Singing every day is essential for keeping your voice healthy and strong.
    
3. Always give yourself plenty of time to learn your audition material. If you make a mistake while singing, do not stop! An audition is like a performance; just keep going and do not let your face or body language reveal the fact that you’ve made a mistake.
    
4. Don’t choose a song that’s notoriously difficult. Know your lyrics and your music. Although this may seem obvious, choose a song that suits you. Many singers do not.
    
5. Have properly prepared music. Make sure it’s in the right key!
    
6. Enter the audition with confidence – first impressions are key here. Keep good posture and walk with confidence, even if you’re terrified!
    
7. Don’t apologise. Not for any reason. Make no excuses. Always be professional.
    
8. Dress for an audition in a smart/casual way. Don’t wear uncomfortable shoes, or something that’s too tight (especially for the dance section of the audition). Don’t come in costume and don’t reveal too much! If you’re called back, wear the same outfit you wore the first day, and wear your hair and makeup the same way too. They liked what they saw… so don’t change it! In a large audition, wearing the same outfit also makes it easier for the panel to remember you.
    
9. Be friendly but don’t be overly talkative. Smile and be personable.
    
10. When you sing, just stand there and sing. Never do choreography or blocking to accompany your song. Don’t wander around. But do use hand and arm movements providing they are natural. This is no time to be shy, so sing out and give a performance.
