2019 OAPF
We are gearing up for our annual Franklin & Friends One Act Play Festival and this year is sure to be another fantastic experience for everyone involved. Our sister societies Protea Stage Management, Startime Players and Lefakgomo Youth Development Theatre have confirmed their participation and we look forward to welcoming them once again to the Franklin stage.
AUDITION DATES
• Sunday, 20th January (14h30) (13h30 for directors)
• Monday, 21st January (19h30)
• Wednesday, 23rd January (19h30)
DIRECTORS
Any budding (or experienced) directors who are keen to direct a play in the festival, please take a look at the Festival Rules and Guidelines on our website and let us know as soon as possible. We are always on the lookout for new directing talent and this is the perfect way to hone your skills in a co-creative and friendly environment. For those who are keen to direct, we will meet at 13h30 this Sunday to review scripts before auditions begin at 14h30.
FESTIVAL DATES
Please make sure you are available on the following dates should you wish to take part in the festival: 5th, 6th, 12th & 13th April 2019
Skills Workshop
There’s never been a better incentive to pay your membership fees!
We encourage all members to join us for an in-depth workshop on Sunday 3rd February from 14h30 to 17h30 covering all aspects of directing, characterisation and stage etiquette, among other things. We will also discuss notes and critiques received from adjudicators during previous festivals and even perform some practical exercises on and off the stage. This is going to be awesome guys!
Our guest facilitator is Lisa Oswald who many of you will be familiar with from last year’s panto. Lisa studied Drama at Rhodes University in Grahamstown and Morley College, London. She specialised in Educational Theatre, Acting and Directing, and since studying has worked on over 30 youth productions in high schools, including 12 One-Act Play Festivals. Her passion is for developing confidence in performers and helping people bring out their very best on stage.
Lisa Oswald played Pinky in Franklin Players’ 2018 year-end pantomime titled Once Upon a Party
So come and join the Franklin family! It’s not only some of the best fun you will ever have, but you will also learn a great deal about all aspects of theatre productions, both on stage and behind the scenes. Download our membership form here.
Worthy Causes
This week the Franklin Players handed over a total of R4,465.40 to Baby Moses Child Sanctuary (babymoses.co.za), our chosen charity last year. Read their letter of thanks here.
This year we have decided that charity begins at home! We are in desperate need of new stage lighting so our drive this year will be to raise enough funds to make the Franklin stage experience a little more wow!
Of course we will still include various outreach initiatives with each show, just like we did for Children of Fire (childrenoffire.org) at last year’s panto where we welcomed the kids to our matinee and they had a great time interacting with the cast afterwards.

RLT Productions
RLT Productions congratulates all the participants, including the amazing Franklin team, on their inspired performances at the RLT charades evening on 30 November. It was: one word… two syllables … 1st syllable: sounds like something you’d row a boat with … 2nd syllable: sounds like something to do with adding figures … yes, correct! – It was awesome!
