2018 OAPF

Yet another hugely successful Franklin & Friends One Act Play Festival under our belt!

We had an incredible 2018 season and played to a full house on two of the four nights, receiving great feedback from the audiences who thoroughly enjoyed the ten productions we had on offer.

We are also very pleased to announce that we were able to raise in excess of R1,400 (being 10% of ticket sales) as part of our annual fundraising for Baby Moses Child Sanctuary which is our charity recipient for 2018.

Congratulations and many thanks to everyone involved in the fest this year, including our amazing Franklin members and fellow amdram societies Protea Stage Productions, Edenvale Acting & Drama Society (EADS), RLT Productions and Lefakgomo Youth Development Theatre.

We are of course eternally grateful to our expert adjudicators, Kathleen Andersen and Cati Muller, for once again sharing their time and expertise with us. And of course to our valued patrons, a massive thanks for your continued support – we do this for you! – and we hope you enjoyed the productions we brought you this year.

Protea Stage Productions

Huge congratulations to Protea for winning numerous awards in our one act fest, including Runner-Up Best Production for their hilarious “April Groom”, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor. Well done guys!

Watch this space for some exciting news to be announced soon about an inter-society festival of pint-sized plays which our friends at Protea are busy brainstorming…

EADS

EADS

EADS also took home various awards for “Last Tango in Little Vale” which they brought to our fest, including Best Supporting Actress, Runner Up Best Supporting Actor and Best Ensemble Cast. Well done!

Congratulations also, yet again, on their own successful One Acts festival! Members of the Franklin committee went through last week Friday to support and were thoroughly entertained. When you drive home with belly aches from laughing so hard you know it’s been a great evening out!

RLT Productions

RLT didn’t leave our festival empty handed either – “One Last Time with Feeling!” took home the Best Lighting award as well as a merit for overall production.

Congratulations to all who took part and we welcome you again next year!

Lefakgomo Youth Development Theatre

Our sister society all the way from Limpopo took home the award for Best Novice Production and we were literally blown away by the performance of leading lady Doris Seale who managed to pull off the incredible feat of learning her lines on the way to Johannesburg after an unfortunate situation left them without a lead actor. All we can say is, Wow! Well done guys, we were thoroughly entertained and we look forward to seeing what you bring next year.

Mid-year Madness

Our mid-year production for this year will be “Cause For Alarm” – an hilarious comedy centred around safety inspection day at a nuclear power plant and all the chaos that ensues as one thing after another goes wrong.

If you are available on the show dates below, please do come along and audition for us on Sunday 6th May at 14h30, 7th May at 19h30 and 9th May at 19h30.

Show dates are 27th & 28th July, and 3rd & 4th August.

Call for Scriptwriters

If there are any budding Panto scriptwriters out there, please do make sure you get busy writing pronto! Panto season is around the corner and it would be great to have some original homegrown Franklin scripts to choose from!
