A Franklin Players Production March 1962
When We Are Married
by J.B. Priestley
Produced by Harry Falkov
"WHEN WE ARE MARRIED" is described as a Yorkshire farcical comedy, and it was first performed at the St. Martins Theatre, London on October 11th, 1938. It was produced by Basil Dean.
Our producer, Harry Falkov, chose this play as the "Franklin Players" first production because of it's humour and humanity, which he believes to be eminently suitable for the whole family, and for a Municipal Recreation Centre.
The situations in the play are farcical, but the characters themselves are authentic enough, and can be identified as types throughout the world.
It is interesting to note for instance, that a class of the Roosevelt Park High School, has "When we are Married" as it's Afrikaans set work.
J.B. Priestley has used all his craftmanship, humour and painstaking attention to detail in writing this play. He ridicules the pompous, the arrogant, the overbearing and the selfrighteous, and tries to stress that "After all, We're all human," and everyone, no matter his situation, is vulnerable, so "Live and let Live".
