The play is a straight drama (something that has been absent from a Franklin stage for some time). It traces the lifelong correspondence of the staid, dutiful lawyer Andrew, and the lively, unstable artist Melissa. The story of their bittersweet relationship gradually unfolds from what is written -- and what is left unsaid -- in their letters.
The play stars Tammy Garner as Melissa, and Brian Sloan as Andrew. Keeping an eye on them in his directorial return to the Franklin stage is former chairman, Andy Bowman.
The play has been a hit off-Broadway, and then shortly after that, on Broadway. It has been performed by a host of famous people since its original performance, including Kathleen Turner, Christopher Reeve, Laura Linney and Christopher Walken.
