Level 1 Lockdown

While we welcome spring in all its glory and the move to Level 1 in the national lockdown, it is important to note that our local recreation centres have yet to open. However, when the rec centre does open we will still need to meet the necessary compliance set by the City of Johannesburg unless otherwise directed.

So what is the way forward for Franklin?
 
While here at Franklin the news of relaxing regulations has been music to our ears, we do have a few considerations to keep in mind and steps to follow before we are back on track:

• Under level 1 restrictions, theatres are still limited to the gathering of maximum 250 people indoors. However, as the Roosevelt Park Recreation Centre does not accommodate 250 people, Franklin Players’ productions will currently fall under the ‘limited to 50% of its normal capacity’ rule. This means we will at most be able to accommodate 50 or 60 people (subject to a decision by the rec centre management).
• When the centre does open, Franklin will have to set out a disaster-management plan of their own in alignment with the Roosevelt Park Recreation Centre’s regulations and disaster management plan, which is informed by the City of Johannesburg, municipality and other government institutions.
• Before we can continue with our activities, the Joint Organisational Committee (JOC) at the City of Johannesburg will be requiring a new application for all our events. No deadlines have been issued yet by the council regarding this.

In lieu of all these regulations and steps to be taken, we urge you to remain patient with us. Level 1 lockdown does not mean the virus is on level 1. We will do our best to work through the items on the agenda as quickly as possible and will keep you informed on our subsequent progress.

We here at Franklin would like to congratulate our very own Nelmarie Janse van Rensburg on getting through to the global finals (Endurance Category) of the World Monologue Games (The Monologue Project). ‘Break at leg’ from all of us here at Franklin!

ROODEPOORT LITTLE THEATRE

First of all we would like to congratulate RLT on their 70th anniversary this year. Many happy returns on such a milestone! Long may it last fellow thespians and may you continue to inspire and entertain many generations to come. We love you!
 
RLT Productions invites you to ADD VERSE CONDITIONS, an evening devoted to the pleasures of poetry, on Friday 2 October, 19h15 for 19h30.

You’ll be able to share up to three of your favourite poems or monologues (including your own compositions), be they serious, satirical, heartbreaking, hilarious, sombre or sensational, with an eager online audience of your fellow readers and other community theatre fans and followers.
 
Whether you’d like to be a poem-presenting participant or just want to sit back and enjoy the readings, RSVP to RLTProductions1950@gmail.com by Monday 28 September.
 
Presenters will need to supply the titles and authors (and, if possible, text) of their poems and, if submitting more than one, their preferences in case all their choices can’t be accommodated. RLT will then send the platform details and meeting link, along with other need-to-know.
 

PROTEA STAGE PRODUCTIONS

Protea is proud to announce that their HANG:10 FESTIVAL of short plays is back and Franklin is super excited! The festival of 10-minute plays will take place at Tom Newby School in Benoni on Friday 27 and Saturday 28 November. Tickets will be available at the door at a cost of R50.
