Variety is the spice of life!

Thanks to everyone who came to audition for our MID-YEAR VARIETY SHOW and congratulations to the super talented cast!

We have a showstopper in the making with acts ranging from moving monologues and powerful songs, to lighthearted skits and an interactive “whodunnit” feature where the audience gets to participate during the show and on social media! Watch this space for clues and exciting previews.

It’s almost Panto time

Before the mid-year dust has had a chance to settle, we’ll be diving headfirst into auditions for our traditional YEAR-END PANTOMIME! 

Information regarding audition preparations will be announced soon, meanwhile be sure to diarise the audition dates and we’ll see you there. Auditions take place at our usual venue, Roosevelt Park Recreation Centre (see address and map here). All ages are welcome.
 
AUDITION DATES 
Sunday 18 August – 2.30pm
Monday 19 August – 7.30pm
Wednesday 21 August – 7.30pm

SHOW DATES
Please make sure you are available to perform on:
22, 23, 29, 30 November 2019

SCRIPT SUBMISSION 
We are in the process of selecting a script which will be announced in our July flyer. You still have time to submit a script for consideration which you can email to committee@franklin.org.za by 7 July. You never know, you may just see your story come to life on the Franklin stage – how exciting would that be!!

 


Skills Workshop

We have another members-only workshop in the pipeline for late August / early September which will cover skills such as writing, directing and characterisation, over and above general acting skills of course. 

Taking into consideration the advice and critique from our One Act Play Festival adjudicators, we plan to include practical and fun exercises on stage. More details will be announced right here so keep an eye out for our next flyer.

RLT Productions

RLT Productions returns to the Roodepoort Basement Theatre with Winter Souls-Tease, a by turns grippingly dramatic and rib-ticklingly irreverent look at life’s journey and its inevitable conclusion. Through song, skits, sketches, memorable monologues and passionate moments from powerful plays, this unique production, conceived, produced and directed by Oriela van der Walt and Graham Shirley, showcases some of RLT’s best-loved and most admired performers, including Karen Zaal, Stephen Slade, Sheila Smith, Werner Maartens, Heather Kruger, Ryan Whittal and the show’s directors.

And what would a journey through life be without the friends you make along the way? Each year, RLT introduces its audiences to, or reacquaints them with, other members of the greater community theatre family and we’re delighted that Winter Souls-Tease will be featuring wonderfully talented guests including a member of our own Franklin family, the Startime Players (Friday performance only), the Merry Wives, the Edenvale Acting and Drama Society, and Phoenix Rising Academy of Drama. Startime Players

Startime will be performing their hit play How Chester Wiffle Made a Big Change in Things! at RLT’s Winter Souls-Tease show on Friday 7th June. This production took home several awards at Franklin’s One Act Play Festival this year, including Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Novice Production, Runner Up Best Director, Best Newcomer and Most Convincing Vocal Performance. Follow Startime Players on Facebook

 


Protea Stage Productions

Protea is bringing an extremely funny comedy to the stage in July, based on  the 1980s UK comedy TV show ‘Allo ‘Allo – don’t miss Protea’s mid-year production ‘Allo ‘Allo Again!

Show dates in July: Fri 19th at 7.30pm, Sat 20th at 2.30pm and 7.30pm, Sun 21st at 2.30pm, Fri 26th at 7.30pm, Sat 27th at 2.30pm and 7.30pm, Sun 28th at 2.30pm.
