March News

OAPF 2017

Our much anticipated One Act Play Festival opens Friday 31st March, that’s tomorrow! Bookings are open and tickets are selling like hot cakes so be sure to book as soon as possible so as not to miss out!

A reminder that 10% of ticket sales go to our chosen charity Barking Mad / Dogtown SA so let’s set the 2017 contribution bar high for the rest of the productions this year!

Go check them out at barkingmad.co.za – a truly worthy cause so let’s make some money in support of our furry friends.

Social Event

Our first social of 2017 took place on Saturday 11th March and once again was thoroughly enjoyed by all those who attended. Fun in the sun, laughs, wine, impromptu soccer and a last minute dash to Checkers for emergency supplies made for a super interesting and enjoyable afternoon yet again!

If you missed out this time be sure to watch out for details of our next one – it’s going to be a cracker!

Call for Mid-year Director

If you are keen to try your hand at directing this year’s mid-year production please put your name forward as soon as possible. We have already sourced a superb script that is guaranteed to be crowd pleaser!

It doesn’t matter if you haven’t directed a full length production before. We are here to guide, support and help out any would-be “newbie” directors to make the experience enjoyable, exciting and rewarding with as little stress as possible! As a community theatre organisation we want to try and nurture talent and growth by giving opportunities to those who want to venture out and try new things and develop their craft.

With a most reliable “safety net” in place you are free to take that leap!

So c’mon, give it a shot – you know you want to…!!

Auditions

Please be sure to diarise the following auditions dates and times:

  • Mid-year – Sunday 23rd, Monday 24th and Wednesday 26th April
  • Panto – Sunday 20th, Monday 21st and Wednesday 23rd August

We have amazing scripts for both productions with parts available for both males and females of varying ages. Check out our Auditions page for more information on the upcoming productions.

DO NOT miss out – trust us, you WANT to be part of these productions!

Under Stage Clean Up

We are super duper stoked to announce that we have finally achieved the mass clean up we have been in dire need of for the past 5 years! A huge thanks you to all of those who came through to help with the heavy lifting and ruthless throwing out – we may have looked like mine workers but we left as super stars!!

Coping with “Audition Blues”

We have all been there at some point. You audition for a specific role in a specific production and you either, a) don’t get the role you auditioned for, or b) don’t get a part at all! You are disappointed, emotional, depressed, and angry and feel like giving up. You ask yourself questions like “Why do I do this to myself?”

It is at times like these that we need to remember that we do this for the love, passion and creative outlet it affords us. Never forget that! Do not be despondent if you don’t get the part that you initially auditioned for. A casting director may see something in you that you don’t necessarily see in yourself. If you are offered a role at all grab onto it with both hands. Accept the role for what it is and challenge yourself. Be passionate about developing your craft and expanding your versatility. Take the role and do the best job you can, you may find yourself tapping into a new genre or character type you have a natural niche for!!

If you don’t try it you will never know and you could be missing out on the experience of a lifetime! It is all about growth and experience in this industry, just as it is with life…
